Billy Martin landed on his feet after the Howrey collapse.

In case you missed it, Washingtonian.com had a piece yesterday about star trial lawyer Michele Roberts’s move from Akin Gump to Skadden, Arps.

She’s not the only prominent litigator to find a new home this week: Billy Martin, a partner at Howrey until the firm’s recent collapse, has joined Dorsey & Whitney. Martin is best known for his representation of high-profile clients such as Michael Vick, Wesley Snipes, and Monica Lewinsky.

Another ex-Howrey partner, Marc Schildkraut, landed at Dewey & LeBoeuf. He’s the latest antitrust lawyer from Howrey to join the firm, which also picked up Roxann Henry and others from Howrey’s antitrust group earlier this month.

Dewey & LeBoeuf also lost intellectual-property-and-antitrust partner Kenneth Freeling to K&L Gates. Freeling was managing partner of Dewey’s office in Doha, Qatar, but will now practice in K&L Gates’s Washington office.

Holland & Knight went on a bit of a hiring spree. The firm has brought on partners William Gould and Patrick O’Brien, who previously practiced at their own boutique firm, O’Brien Gould. Gould splits his time between the firm’s DC and Northern Virginia offices, and O’Brien practices in both DC and San Francisco.

David Cole, formerly a partner at Baker & McKenzie, also joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the Northern Virginia office. That office also welcomed partner Terry Elling, who previously practiced at Venable.

Zuckerman Spaeder has brought on three lawyers from Buc & Beardsley, including name partner Kate Beardsley. Both she and Carmen Shepard joined Zuckerman as partners, and James Knowles joined as an associate. Buc & Beardsley will close at the end of the month.

Eric Sophir jumped from SNR Denton to King & Spalding, where he’s a partner in the intellectual-property-and-technology practice.

Venable welcomed counsel Scott Gluck to its legislative-affairs group from the National Republican Congressional Committee, where he was director of special initiatives during the 2010 election cycle.
