Sarah Palin Makes an Appearance in Rolling Thunder Parade; 4000-Series Rail Cars More Likely to Break: Morning Links

Good morning, Washington! I hope you're having a great Memorial Day weekend, whether you struggled with traffic on the way out of town or stuck around Washington for the brutal heat and humidity.

Parades, Parades, Parades: This weekend was full of 'em. The annual Rolling Thunder Memorial Day parade, which is designed to raise awareness of prisoners of war and soldiers who go missing in action, took place in the city yesterday. In case you were wondering, yes, Sarah Palin did show up. The Washington Post has pictures.

Yesterday the United House of Prayer parade snaked its way through Logan Circle and Shaw. Boarderstan has photos and Cultural Tourism DC has more on the history of the church.

The annual Memorial Day parade, which will honor 9/11 victims as well as veterans, will take place today around the national mall from 2 to 4 PM. WTOP has more details on the route.

4000-Series Cars Cause Metro Delays: The Washington Examiner's Kytja Weir reports that the 4000-series rail cars, which riders can identify by the numbers printed on the inside and outside of cars, cause the most breakdowns and delays in the Metro system. This rail car has a record that's three times worst than the system's best cars, and can't even meet half of Metro's own service goals.

Republicans Steering Clear of DC's Gay Marriage Law: The Washington Post looks at congressional Republicans, who have so far meddled with DC's abortion funding law and tried to end its needle exchange program but thus far have avoided attacking DC's same-sex marriage law, which was signed into law by Adrian Fenty last year. At least, for now.

Stay Off Cell Phones While Driving: A deadly two-car crash in Louden County this weekend killed one person and severely injured two others. WJLA reported that a witness saw one of the drivers talking on a cell phone minutes before the crash.
