Good morning, Washington! Capital Weather Gang predicts it's going to be a hot and humid one, so be sure you stay cool and hydrated.
State Dinner: Last night the White House held a state dinner for Germany, and the Reliable Source notes that there are fewer celebrities than usual. "It’s the first dinner in years with no prominent athletes (guess Dirk Nowitzki is busy, huh) or movie stars (where’s, um, David Hasselhoff? Er, Katherine Heigl? Who are the other obvious German-Americans we’re forgetting?)," the Source writes. Still, the First Lady, as usual, looked lovely.
Hirshhorn Bubble Plans Pop?: Remember when the Hirshhorn was going to install that giant bubble? Well, according to Tyler Green at Modern Art notes, the project is hitting some funding roadblocks. The museum isn't commenting on whether it will meet the "late 2012" deadline it set for itself. DC Statehood Gets NH Love: A state legislator in New Hampshire, Cindy Rosenwald, introduced a bill that supports making DC the 51st state. WJLA reminds us that former Mayor Adrian Fenty, current Mayor Vince Gray, and seven other council members testified in the Granite State's House of Representatives in 2008 in support of DC statehood.
Barry Unhappy With Redistricting: Freeman Klopott over at the Washington Examinerwrites that Marion Barry is unhappy with how the redistricting process went—so unhappy that he plans to ask Eric Holder at the US Justice Department to see if the process violated residents' civil rights. Barry's proposal of moving the border of his district west to include a "white" neighborhood near the Nationals' ball park was rejected in the redistricting process. Business Owner Pleads Guilty on Violating Immigration Law: The Examinerreports that a Fairfax County businessman admitted yesterday to harboring undocumented immigrants as employees. Taesan Won, who operated a female companion business called Honey, was arrested in May and faces sentencing on September 2. Car Strikes Bicyclist: The Washington Post also reports that a woman riding a bicycle was seriously injured yesterday after getting struck by a car near 15th and Q streets, Northwest. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Drivers and riders, be safe!
