NFL Lockout Possibly Drawing to Close: The NFL labor dispute could be over as early as Thursday, the AP reports. Representatives of both the owners and the players sat in more than eight hours of meetings yesterday in New York to hash out an agreement. The NFL's pre-season opener was originally scheduled for August 7. Redskins fans, you must be excited.

Pedestrian Death: Yesterday a pedestrian was seriously injured while crossing Pennsylvania Avenue near Seventh Street, Northwest. NBC4 notes that there have been six pedestrian deaths in DC so far this year.

Sexual Assault on Metro Train: A recently released report revealed that a sexual assault occurred on the Green Line train in April. Neither the name of the alleged victim nor the name of the alleged assailant were released, but Metro did disclose that the girl reporting the assault was under 18. Kytja Weir at the Washington Examiner puts the incident in context, reporting the number of reported rapes each year since 2006.

White House Party Crashers Court Case Extended: Michaele and Tareq Salahi, the infamous White House party crashers, still face a day in court on August 3. They were expected to appear yesterday in a Loudoun County District Court yesterday, but neither they nor their lawyer showed, WJLA reported.

Ruff and Ready Closing: The U Street Corridor bargain furniture outlet Ruff and Ready is planning to close at the end of August. The business received a letter in May informing them they had three months to close up shop, the Washington Times reports. August 13 marks both its 20th anniversary and its final date of business.

Evidence of an invasive snake species has been found just south of the Annapolis river, indicating there's low salinity in the Chesapeake Bay. . . . Despite lack of funds and trouble with the Dulles Rail line, planners are moving forward with a proposed Purple Line between Bethesda and New Carrolton.
