Morning, Washingtonians. Still shaking off the hangover of the Republican presidential debate? Us too. Eight 2012 Republican presidential candidates participated in a debate televised on Fox News last night. (Oh, and even though Texas Governor Rick Perry wasn’t there, he hinted he may announce his candidacy soon.)

Body Recovered in Anacostia River: DC police pulled a man’s body from the Anacostia River yesterday evening. Police say they know the man’s identity, but are waiting to contact his relatives before releasing it. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Shaw Giant to Close in September: The long-awaited CityMarket at O project, which will take up two full city blocks in Shaw when completed, will be getting underway soon, DCmud reports. The Giant on Ninth and O streets, Northwest, will close on September 8 to make way for the $260 million development, which will include a revamped Giant, other retail space, more than 600 residential units, and 500 parking spaces.

Gray Begins Trans Training Program: DC Mayor Vincent Gray ordered the city’s Department of Employment Services to begin a pilot program that is designed to for transgender individuals to receive job training and placement. Employment protections are guaranteed by the city’s Human Rights Act, but some transgender activists say employers are turning away qualified transgender applicants anyway. The city will hire someone to work as a full-time coordinator for the program, the Washington Blade reports.

Arlington Serial Bank Robber At Large: Police say they believe five of the eight bank robberies committed in Arlington this year are connected by a single man. The suspect, a six-foot-tall white man in his fifties with a thin build, has been observed in surveillance videos and is suspected in a Tuesday robbery. The number of robberies in Arlington County this year is a dramatic increase over last year’s three. The suspect is still at large.
