Washington’s Adoptable Pets of the Week: April 3, 2015

Bandit is a four-year-old pit bull/Chesapeake Bay retriever mix who recently arrived at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. He came from a from the SPCA of Pittsylvania, a shelter in rural Virginia, and the staff there say Bandit is so friendly with children that he even visited a kindergarten class and had a great time. Bandit also walks well on a leash and loves to play fetch. Meet him at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Xena is a four-month-old pit bull-mix who would make a great running partner. She would benefit from an experienced adopter who will commit to taking her to training classes. Xena would do best in an adult only home. You can meet her at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.
Joy is a gorgeous black-and-tan coonhound who is on the smaller side – around 40 pounds. Joy seems to be housetrained, although like most dogs, may need a refresher in a new environment. Joy is a little shy at first but once she gets to know you, she is very affectionate. Joy is a great jogging partner. She also loves to go for a hike or just for a ride in the car. She has been easy to train and has already adusted to her crate. Joy is a young gal, who can’t wait to give her new family tons of love and affection in return for a forever home! Latch is a sweet young hound-mix who weighs 45 to 50 pounds. He’s very sweet and loves other dogs, but is shy around new people and places. Latch is looking for someone who can be patient with him and teach him that he doesn’t have to be scared. Latch is looking for either a forever home or a foster home. Confetti is a two-year-old Staffordshire terrier-mix. He’s an enthusiastic and energetic girl looking for a human companion with similar qualities. He would love to spend his days playing and going for a run, then snuggling on the couch. Confetti is selective about his canine friends—he enjoys playing with some but not others. When it comes to people, however, he seems to like everyone. Smart and food motivated, Confetti has learned how to sit on command, is now working on “down,” and is eager to learn more tricks. Meet Miguel, a cute little Chihuahua-mix, currently residing at the Washington Animal Rescue League. Since arriving at WARL in mid-January, Miguel has been waiting patiently for someone to realize what a wonderful canine companion he’d be. He’s friendly, and likes both people and other dogs, but is beginning to feel a bit sad now that his den-mate has been adopted. At seven years old, Miguel has the wisdom that comes with maturity but is still playful and energetic. He also qualifies for WARL’s Boomers’ Buddies program, which means his adoption fee will be waived for anyone 50 years or older. He’s waiting for you at the Washington Animal Rescue League.

Duncan is a three-year-old boy, currently staying at the Washington Humane Society’s New York Avenue Adoption Center. He is very affectionate and loves to nap and sit in your lap. Duncan has FeLV, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a happy, healthy life. Duncan is very social and wants to be friends with everyone. Meet him at the Washington Humane Society.
Devon is a six-month-old lab mix who weighs about 30 to 35 pounds. He should weigh 50 to 55 pounds full grown. Devon was found wandering a country road with his siblings and is the last to get adopted. He has an easy-going, goofy, temperament, and does great with other dogs and all people, including toddlers. Devon loves playing with tennis balls. Despite his age and breed mix, he is a pretty calm puppy and will do well in any type of home. He needs some puppy manners training, but is highly food motivated. His foster mom says he is house-trained and crate-trained. Meet him through K-9 Lifesavers.

Juniper is a one-year-old lab mix. She weighs about 50 pounds and will likely weigh 55 to 60 pounds fully grown. She is crate-trained and knows basic commands like “watch me,” “sit,” and “down,” and will perform all of them for a treat. She is very food-motivated. She is also very energetic and needs an active family who can handle a strong, active pup, and continue working with her on obedience training. She also needs a little bit of help with leash manners. She is better suited for experienced dog owners and families with children at least 10 years old. She would do best with a family in a quieter neighborhood where she can work on leash manners and get exercise and attention. Meet Juniper through K-9 Lifesavers.
