Washington’s Adoptable Pets of the Week: June 12, 2015

Elvis (above) is a goofy Coonhound-mix, approximately two years old. He is crate-trained, good with dogs of all sizes, and loves to play. Elvis is a great listener, and he’s calm and mellow, especially for a young dog. Elvis is currently living at a doggy daycare so not only is he looking for his forever family, he also needs a foster home. Elvis would make a great addition to any family. Melbourne was surrendered to the shelter by his owners when they could no longer care for him. The shelter staff were told his mom was a labradoodle and his dad was a lab. He is approximately 8 months old and very affectionate. He is very friendly and great with other dogs. Melbourne already weighs about 60 pounds and is not done growing, so he is going to be a big boy. He would be happiest in a home with a fenced back yard and with another dog as a companion. He really loves to play with other dogs of all sizes but a medium to large dog companion would be best. Melbourne is not super high-energy but definitely needs a yard for romping around. He is somewhat scared of the indoors but is quickly coming around and learning to love being inside. He is housetrained and crate trained. Melbourne will make a great addition to any family. Adler is an easy-going lab/boxer mix. He’s about two years old and fully grown at about 55 pounds, currently living in boarding. He’s best with older children since he can be a little anxious if there’s a lot of noise and commotion around, but he’s smart, adjusts easily, and is quick to learn. He can be a little shy with people he doesn’t know, but once he realizes you’re a friend, he’s a happy, friendly boy. You can meet him through K-9 Lifesavers.
Comet is young plot hound-mix, around a year old and nearly fully grown at about 50 pounds. Even though he’s moved around a lot in his short life, this boy is incredibly happy and eager to meet everyone he sees. Comet has a wonderful disposition, and he’s very smart, loyal and the perfect age for training. He would be a great addition to any home, and a great match for an active family. Portia is a four-year-old, nine-pound, short-haired cat. She has been at the Washington Humane Society since November 1, 2013, so she is long overdue to find a permanent family. She was surrendered when her owner fell ill. Portia is part of the WHS Hidden Gem Program which means her adoption fee is waived. She loves to be near people. Though she’s not a big fan of sitting in laps, she loves napping on keyboards or sitting right near you. She would love a great window to sit and stare out of while you spend your day at work or running errands. You can meet her at the WHS Georgia Avenue Adoption Center.
